Three people were killed and eight others were wounded when “multiple gunmen” opened fire at a New York City restaurant early Sunday as the restaurant was closing.

At a news conference, New York Police Department Commissioner Jessica Tisch said police responded to reports of a shooting at the Taste of the City Lounge on Franklin Avenue in Crown Heights just before 3:30 a.m. local time.

The victims who died were identified as three men, ages 27, 35, and another whose age has not yet been determined.

Eight other injured people were taken to nearby hospitals, although authorities did not provide details on their conditions.

Tisch said “multiple gunmen” were involved and no arrests had been made, adding that investigators had found at least 36 shell casings from “multiple weapons” at the scene.

“We have currently identified 11 victims aged 27 to 61, eight men and three women,” she said.

“We have the lowest number of shootings and shooting victims in seven months of this year that we’ve ever seen in New York City,” Tisch said.

“Something like this is, thank God, an anomaly and it’s a terrible thing that happened this morning,” she added.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
