Austria extradited War Crime Suspect to BiH

Suspect Ćehić Nedžad (1972) is accused of having committed the war crime against prisoners of war in 1995.

After the extradition of the suspect, which was carried out by the partner institutions of the Republic of Austria, where the suspect was located and deprived of liberty, a hearing was held in the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the suspect was ordered to be detained.

Suspect Ćehić Nedžad, born in 1972 in Bosanska Krupa, is included in the investigation of the Special Department for War Crimes, which relates to the murder of at least 25 captured members of the Army of Republika Srpska, who were captured in the Bosanska Krupa region in 1995.

The investigation in this case, in which the indictment was brought against 7 persons in the case Bužimkić Senad et al. it also includes the suspect Ćehić, who was unavailable to the judicial institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina, after which joint efforts were made to find and locate him with the partner police and judicial institutions.

The defendants in the aforementioned case are accused of acting in their capacity as commanders and members of the 511th Glorious Mountain Brigade of the RBiH Army in violation of the Geneva Conventions on the Protection of Prisoners of War during the war.

The indictment states that after the capture of at least 25 members of the VRS in localities in the municipality of Bosanska Krupa, four of the prisoners were immediately killed, and the others were taken into captivity, after which they were taken away, tortured and abused, and some of the prisoners were shot dead and some the prisoner was beaten to death with cold weapons and various objects.

The bodies of the murdered prisoners were exchanged and found during 1995 and 1996, and the body of one victim was found in 2004, announced the BiH Prosecutor’s Office.
