After several successful projects regarding mass recreational running and promotion of a healthy life, the non-governmental organization “Marathon” from Sarajevo is organizing the fifth race in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) only for girls “Avon Girls Running 2017.” The general sponsor AVON has been supporting actions that empower women for 130 years.
The socially responsible project “Girls running” is organized as a promotion of healthy and active lifestyle of our citizens, as well as a method in the battle against discrimination and stereotypes in our society. The organizers wish to use this opportunity to contribute to the building of a more healthy and modern surrounding, while sports manifestations such as this one gather more than 30,000 participants in modern countries. At the same time, the female leaders of the running community in BiH are noting that this race will be a special rehearsal before the Sarajevo Coca-Cola half-marathon.
In the beautiful and peaceful Vilson’s Lane on Sunday, September 7th, 2017 at 10 a.m., the race will take place and starts from the hotel Novotel Sarajevo Bristol. On this short and fun race, over 400 runners are expected, while participants can walk or run. It’s especially important to highlight the significance of socially responsible part of this manifestation.
In accordance with the goals of the organizers, the race will serve as a platform for humanitarian projects and support for several useful initiatives. Thanks to the support of AVON, a part of the proceeds will be used to raise awareness of breast cancer, using the run to promote a healthy and active lifestyle as a means to prevent cancer and increasing the overall health of female citizens of BiH.
