The Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denis Bećirović, spoke with the President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb, as part of his working visit to the Republic of Finland. This is the first working visit of the Chairman of the BiH Presidency to the Republic of Finland since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Finland in 1995.

During the substantive discussion in Helsinki, it was stated that bilateral relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Finland are good and friendly, but that there is room for improvement of cooperation, especially in the field of economy.

Also, the interlocutors emphasized the importance of visits at the highest level and, in this context, the importance of the first visit of the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, to the Republic of Finland.

Bećirović thanked President Stubb for the principled support that Finland provides to Bosnia and Herzegovina in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration. He emphasized that the continued support of Finland in the process of European integration of Bosnia and Herzegovina is very important, which was proven when Bosnia and Herzegovina received candidate status for EU membership and the decision to open accession negotiations with the EU was made.

Also, Bećirović thanked the Republic of Finland for its support during the adoption of the Resolution on July 11 as the International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica in 1995 in the UN General Assembly. Finland was one of the co-sponsors of the Resolution on Srebrenica.

Chairman of the BiH Presidency Denis Bećirović informed President Stubb about the current political, security and other challenges in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region.

He once again congratulated the Republic of Finland on its entry into full NATO membership, and added that Finland’s accession to NATO at the time of the Russian invasion of Ukraine contributed to the strengthening of security and stability in northern Europe.

He said that Bosnia and Herzegovina is not giving up on the strategic goal of becoming a full member of NATO and that it will continue to build strong relations with partner countries, including Finland. The entry of Bosnia and Herzegovina into NATO membership would guarantee long-term peace in the Western Balkans and the end of the danger of big-state ideologies and policies.

The President of the Republic of Finland Alexander Stubb said that his country will continue to support the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also emphasized that Finland will continue to firmly support the development of independent, sovereign and multi-ethnic Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, expressed his gratitude to the Republic of Finland for its exceptional support in the process of promoting peace and stability in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region in the past period, Bećirović’s cabinet announced.
