The Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Denis Bećirović, met with the Deputy Secretary of State of the United States of America (USA) Christopher Landau at the State Department in Washington.
Bećirović said that Bosnia and Herzegovina has concretely proven that it is a reliable partner of the USA. Our country has been a reliable member of the global coalition to fight terrorism for decades. The Armed Forces of BiH have participated in peace support operations and anti-terrorist operations together with the US Armed Forces.
American engagement is of exceptional importance for the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans, and especially for the protection of the Dayton Peace Agreement, said Bećirović.
He emphasized the clear commitment of Bosnia and Herzegovina to further strengthen political, security and economic relations with the USA. He pointed out that American support remains of crucial importance for the preservation of peace, security and constitutional order in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as for the stability of the wider Western Balkans region.
He added that Bosnia and Herzegovina’s membership in NATO is one of the key foreign policy priorities of the country.
Bećirović emphasized the importance of intensifying cooperation in the energy sector, expressing full support for the Southern Gas Interconnection project. This project was assessed as crucial for diversifying sources of supply, reducing energy dependence and strengthening the overall energy security of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized that its implementation represents a strategic interest of the state, but also an important opportunity to further deepen the partnership with the USA.
The Chairman of the Presidency of BiH informed Landau about the significant potential for stronger cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the USA in the field of defense industry, hydropower and tourism.
He also emphasized the importance of intensifying cooperation in the field of security and defense, including countering hybrid and cyber threats, and strengthening the capacities of the Armed Forces of BiH through joint training and exchange of experiences with the USA.
Bećirović emphasized that this cooperation contributes not only to the security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also to the stability of the entire Western Balkans, emphasizing the strategic role of the partnership with the US in preserving peace and constitutional order in the country, the Office of the Chairman of the Presidency of BiH, Denis Bećirović, announced.
