Members of the Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Presidency talked with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark, Lars Lokke Rasmussen, about the current situation in BiH and the cooperation between the two countries.
Strategic foreign policy goals
The member of the BiH Presidency, Denis Becirovic, thanked for the overall support of the Kingdom of Denmark. He emphasized that the state authorities of BiH unanimously defined the strategic foreign policy priorities, namely the European Union (EU) and NATO. Entities and lower levels of government within the indivisible state of BiH do not have any competence when it comes to foreign policy and that is why the decision of the incompetent Assembly of the Republika Srpska (RS) entity on military neutrality is legally null and void. As long as the state authorities of BiH do not change the laws and other acts, that determine the foreign policy of the state, all representatives of the state of BiH are obliged to respect them. It is the fundamental principle of the functioning of any legal state.
During the meeting, Becirovic proposed, among other things:
– to conclude a bilateral agreement on dual citizenship between Denmark and BiH as soon as possible, so that former citizens of BiH can return their citizenship, without renouncing their Danish citizenship.
– that Denmark reopens the Danish Embassy in BiH in the context of EU integration.
Attack on the constitutional order of BiH
Becirovic informed Minister Rasmusen about the current situation in BiH and the attack on the constitutional order of our country. He said that it is important to stabilize conditions in BiH and stop the overthrow of the constitutional order, so that the state of BiH could, among other things, devote itself to EU and NATO integration.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Denmark, Lars Lokke Rasmusen, said that the situation in BiH and relations in the Western Balkans have become part of Denmark’s political agenda. He emphasized that the EU should strengthen its relations with the countries of the Western Balkans and support their ambitions regarding EU membership.
Improvement of economic cooperation
During the meeting, it was noted that bilateral relations between BiH and Denmark are good and friendly, but that there is still plenty of room for improving economic cooperation and connecting the two countries. It was stated that BiH the diaspora represents a bridge between the two countries and opens up opportunities for strengthening bilateral relations, especially in the fields of economy, culture and education.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Zeljko Komsic, and members of the BiH Presidency, dr. Denis Becirovic and Zeljka Cvijanovic.
