Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović, who is in New York on the occasion of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, met with the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and the President of the Republic of France, Emmanuel Macron.
After the meeting, Bećirović published brief information about the talks via social networks, stating that they were friendly meetings.
In his conversation with Macron, he particularly emphasized the good relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and France. Bećirović also thanked the French president for the new invitation to visit Paris.
“A friendly conversation with the President of the Republic of France, Emmanuel Macron. Thank you to the President of the Republic of France for the new invitation to visit Paris,” said Bećirović.
The Chairman of the BiH Presidency also met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, with whom he also spoke in New York.
“A friendly conversation with the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Bosnia and Herzegovina respects the courageous and responsible leadership of the President of the Republic of Turkey in these complex global circumstances,” said Bećirović.
Bećirović is in New York to participate in the UN General Assembly, where he addressed the general debate of the 81st session.
In his address, he spoke about the situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, European and Euro-Atlantic integration, but also broader international crises. He particularly pointed to, as he stated, attempts to block the progress of BiH and policies that call into question the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state.
Speaking about the international situation, Bećirović singled out the war in Ukraine, the situation in Gaza, the crisis in Sudan and the war in the Gulf region as key challenges. He emphasized the importance of respecting the UN Charter, international law and strengthening the multilateral system.
He also said that Bosnia and Herzegovina sees its strategic foreign policy goals in membership in the European Union and NATO.
During his stay in New York, Bećirović also spoke with UN Secretary General António Guterres. In that conversation, among other things, he talked about the importance of the UN General Assembly Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica and respect for the final judgments of international courts.
