Italian and Russian Fighter Jets on the Brink of an Incident in a close Encounter over the Baltic Sea

A Russian fighter jet intercepted an Italian jet during a routine mission to protect the airspace of NATO’s Baltic member states, approaching it at an extremely close distance.

Another encounter between NATO and Russian aircraft occurred over the Baltic Sea, which, based on footage of the event, could have turned tragic. The Russian jet approached the Italian fighter at a critically close distance, where, at such altitudes and speeds, even the smallest mistake could cause an accident with unimaginable consequences.

An Italian F-35 fighter jet, part of NATO forces guarding the airspace over the Baltic Sea, was intercepted, and the Russian pilot recorded the entire encounter from close proximity.

The incident underscores the ongoing tensions in the Baltic region, where Russian and NATO aircraft frequently operate in close quarters. While such encounters are not uncommon, they carry the risk of miscalculation.

NATO’s air forces in the region aim to ensure the security of allied airspace, while Russian aircraft often challenge the boundaries of international airspace.

On the other hand, NATO has not issued an official statement about the incident, and the Italian Air Force has yet to confirm or comment on the encounter involving their F-35 jet, Klix.ba writes.
