The North Atlantic Council (NAC) delegation led by NATO Deputy Secretary General Mircea Geoana met today in Sarajevo with two of the three members of the BiH Presidency – Željko Komšić and Denis Bećirović, while Željka Cvijanović did not attend the meeting.
With that meeting, Geoana and the ambassadors of NATO member countries began their two-day visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, and today they will also meet with members of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Collegium of the Parliamentary Assembly.
NATO sent us a very clear and precise message today: the security and stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina is also our NATO interest, said the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Bećirović after the meeting in Sarajevo with the members of the North Atlantic Council (NAC), stressing that BiH belongs to the European and Euro-Atlantic integrations.
“I am very encouraged after this meeting, the Deputy Secretary General (Mircea Genoana, ob.a.) and the ambassadors of the countries in NATO have undoubtedly said that they firmly stand behind Bosnia and Herzegovina, its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity. And they all very clearly said that they strongly condemn any call for secession and endangering the sovereignty and independence of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” said Bećirović.
He added that he pointed out the strategic goals of Bosnia and Herzegovina – full membership in the NATO alliance and the European Union.
“Bosnia and Herzegovina is not neutral, Bosnia and Herzegovina is determined. That is the decision of the state authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina and everyone must know that. The legal framework of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina is clear. “The state authorities of Bosnia and Herzegovina have adopted all the necessary legal, strategic and conceptual documents in the field of defense and security,” said Bećirović.
He reminded of all the laws, policies, statements and decisions made in the previous period, stating that BiH accepted the criteria and through participation in the MAP and is working on their fulfillment.
“Today I openly called on the North Atlantic Council to help Bosnia and Herzegovina move towards NATO membership with accelerated steps. It is the strategic interest of all peoples and citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We all benefit from it economically, politically and psychologically. This is a message to all people in our country. That the time of wars and unrest is irreversibly behind us and that we are coming under the security umbrella of the strongest military alliance in the world,” said Bećirović.
He emphasized that he was also talking about the fact that there are evidently pro-Russian politicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina who threaten the peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, stating that the recent interview of the President of Bosnia and Herzegovina testifies to this. entity of Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik.
He said that after today’s meeting, all good people in Bosnia and Herzegovina can be encouraged. He thanked all the ambassadors, stating that they received more support than they had ever had before.
