Becirovic: There are no genocidal Nations, criminals must not hide behind entire Nations

After the adoption of the Resolution on Srebrenica in the UN, the Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Denis Bećirović, spoke for the Radiotelevision of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

At the beginning, he pointed out that he thinks the Resolution is a good reason for catharsis in the entire region of the Western Balkans.

“We need to turn to peace and cooperation. Adopting the resolution today in the General Assembly of the United Nations is a highly moral and civilizing act of the General Assembly of the United Nations. I believe that the adopted resolution is equally important for the United Nations as well as for Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

Bećirović emphasized that there is no reason for any euphoria.

“We need to behave responsibly and with dignity, at this moment in my mind, above all, the victims of genocide and their families, especially the mothers of Srebrnica, who have been fighting for the truth for decades, many of them, unfortunately, moved to another, better world and did not wait for the adoption of this resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly, so this is a small piece of justice.”

After today’s vote, no one should have any more dilemmas, the highest international courts have ruled that genocide against Bosniaks was committed in and around Srebrenica, he said.

“Today it was also adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations. So, instead of manipulations and deceptions, today the General Assembly of the United Nations supported established legal facts and strengthened what is written in this resolution, to strengthen culture, peace and encourage justice, for the process of reconciliation in the region, for the institutional protection of the heritage of the United Nations courts.”

Bećirović said that the General Assembly today voted against the policy of glorifying war criminals, but on the other hand it voted for the prevention of genocide.

“This is a historic day for the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also for all of humanity.”

He underlined that there is no such thing as a genocidal nation.

“I also want to say very clearly that there are no genocidal nations. War criminals must not hide behind entire nations. That’s why this resolution is a great chance for catharsis and a civilizational clearing-up with those responsible for the committed genocide.”

He told the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, to open a new page in the relations between the two countries.

“It is our obligation to all work together to build peace and prosperity, I think that both Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia have a lot of politicians, we need more statesmen, that’s why my message to the president of neighboring Serbia is to open a new page in the relations between our countries and to declare the 21st century the century of peace in the Western Balkans.”

He also responded to announcements and offers from Republika Srpska about peaceful disunification.

“It’s the most common nonsense. Slobodan Milošević had a thousand times greater military and other power than, say, the president of the RS entity, and he failed to destroy the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The vast majority of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina love their country and will defend the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina Herzegovina in accordance with international and domestic law, with us are the allies of Bosnia and Herzegovina, that is why we should not make such statements, we should behave responsibly and rationally, we should not deny the judgments of the courts of the United Nations and we should turn to the future.”
