Company “Šakić” d.o.o. from Busovača has been engaged in wood processing for more than 20 years and is export-oriented. It exports 95 percent of its basic products – charcoal and coal briquettes – to the European Union market.

By introducing circular production through the EU4BusinessRecovery project, the company “Šakić” d.o.o. expanded its range of products by placing on the market wood briquettes made from coal dust as a by-product of charcoal production.

Slaviša Čavara, controller of wood products, proudly points out the commitment of this company to ensuring the longevity of natural resources for future generations.

“Our commitment to quality, innovation and technological progress has enabled us to become one of the leaders in this industry. In order to reduce CO2 emissions, the consumption of natural resources and increase the utilization of wood mass, we applied to the EU4BusinessRecovery project. Thanks to him, we made it happen. Modernly equipped furnaces ensure that the production process is environmentally friendly, minimizing the harmful impact on the environment,” explains Čavara.

By implementing the EU4BusinessRecovery project, the company “Šakić” d.o.o. it became more competitive both on the domestic and foreign markets. Progress was also made in the area of financial operations by reorganizing procedures in order to increase the efficiency of production, including the creation of a financing plan, and mechanisms for monitoring financial flows.

“The production capacity has increased, and therefore the number of employed workers has increased from 36 to 42. We have expanded the production of coal briquettes. With increased production, we have increased the number of employed women. All workers are trained in fire protection and occupational safety. The expected growth in sales is five times higher compared to the period before the Covid 19 pandemic. This is an increase of 100 percent. Our new website enables easier, better and faster contact with clients as well as product promotion. Thanks to the project, we have increased the number of domestic and foreign customers and suppliers,” continues Čavara.

Projects for a more successful BiH

The goal of the EU4BusinessRecovery project is to increase business performance, strengthen competitiveness in targeted sectors, create new jobs, create new business support services, and create new business networks.

“Projects like this enable us to create new jobs, new markets and generally make business easier and safer on the European market,” concludes Čavara.
