BHANSA increases Operational Capacities in Airspace

The Bosnia and Herzegovina Air Navigation Services Agency /BHANSA/ will increase operational capacities in the airspace of Bosnia and Herzegovina from Thursday, March 19, to prepare the system for possible changes in international air traffic flows caused by the crisis in the Middle East.

Sectoral availability and capacities of existing sectors will be increased in order to ensure the stable and smooth functioning of the European air traffic network, BHANSA announced.

This decision was made in coordination with Eurocontrol following assessments that the closure of the airspace of Iran, Iraq, Syria and Yemen in the next eight weeks could lead to a significant rerouting of intercontinental flights to Southeast Europe, including BiH.

BHANSA states that the first consequences of the crisis have already been recorded, given that flights that were already in the air at the time of the closure of the airspace of the affected countries had to be redirected to alternative routes, and that the increased transit traffic through the airspace of BiH was served without operational difficulties.

BHANSA will continue to monitor the development of the situation on a daily basis in cooperation with Eurocontrol and, as necessary, adjust operational capacities to ensure the safety, flow and stability of air traffic over BiH, the statement emphasizes.
