Tonight, the 80th birthday of Radiotelevision of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BHRT) was marked with a ceremonial academy at the National Theater in Sarajevo. The event was attended by numerous public figures, and a rich cultural and artistic program was arranged, with a direct broadcast on the BHRT program.

General Director of BHRT Belmin Karamehmedović recalled the history of that television, pointing out that it is “a living witness of the times, a chronicle of our joys and tragedies, victories and failures.”

The greats of journalism, art, music and documentary began their careers there. During the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the light of the Radio Television of Bosnia and Herzegovina did not stop shining, it did not stop working. Radio broadcasting packages

“Today, BHRT is not being destroyed by shells, but by the silence of the system. Today, when we celebrate eight decades of work, we do not do it lightly. We celebrate with pride, but also with a spasm because the Public Service, which the citizens of this country have trusted for 80 years, is on the verge of survival. Today, in peace, BHRT is struggling with something quieter, but equally dangerous. Forgetfulness and ignoring. Years of political indifference, inadequate financing models, brutal violations of the law to our detriment, have brought this house to the brink of survival,” emphasized Karamehmedović.

“Bosnia and Herzegovina is a permanent category. Bosnia and Herzegovina will join the European Union. There is no member state in the European Union without a strong and stable public broadcasting service. If you have a strong public broadcasting service, you have a strong state. I congratulate all those who built this beautiful house on their 80th birthday,” said Edin Forto, Minister of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at a ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of BHRT.

On April 10, 1945, Radio Sarajevo was launched in liberated Sarajevo, marking the beginning of public media broadcasting in our country.

The program of this event was designed to remind us of the role and importance of the former Radio Television Sarajevo, today’s BHRT, in the history of Bosnian society and state.
