US Vice President Kamala Harris leads Republican challenger Donald Trump by five percentage points, according to a new NBC poll released Sunday that shows respondents have viewed Harris more favorably since she became the Democratic presidential nominee.

Asked how they view Harris since she became a candidate, 48 percent of 1,000 respondents said they view her favorably, compared with 32 percent in July — the biggest jump NBC has seen since President George W. Bush’s popularity soared after the attacks. September 11, 2001

When asked how they see Trump, 40 percent of respondents said they see him positively, compared to 38 percent of respondents who said the same in July, television reports. The poll, which was conducted between September 13 and 17, has a margin of error of around three percentage points.

A separate CBS News poll also showed Harris leading Trump by four percentage points, 52 to 48 percent among likely voters, with a margin of error of two percentage points.

The results are broadly in line with other national polls, including those by Reuters/Ipsos, which show the Nov. 5 election will be a close race.

And while national polls provide important signals about voter attitudes, state-by-state results determine how the Electoral College will vote, with a few key swing states deciding the election’s fate, Hina writes.
