beehiveSulejman Jakupović, a well-known beekeeper from Kozaruša near Prijedor, has been engaged for some time already in the production of bee venom which will, if his plans materialize, be placed on the US market.

Bee venom, which is very respected in the pharmaceutical industry, can easily be sold in the US for the unbelievable amount of 70,000 dollars per kilogram. Jakupović plans to export 10 kilograms of bee venom, whose worth is 700,000 dollars, which is more than one million KM.

Jakupović owns 300 bee colonies, and until now has gathered 200 grams of bee venom. He said that his plans are bigger because he plans to export around 10 kilograms of bee venom.

“I have sent samples to the US and received a response that the quality is adequate. I do this job by myself and cooperate with subcontractors from Banja Luka and Sarajevo. I plan to collect about five kilograms of bee venom, and my subcontractors much more. We collect the venom with the help of modern stimulating plates that are placed in the hives. Thanks to this procedure, the bees do not lose their sting and they stay alive’’, said Jakupović .

He adds that between 15.000 and 20.00 bee stings gives only one gram of venom. Bee venom gives excellent results in treatment of as many as 40 different autoimmune diseases, and especially for multiple sclerosis, psoriasis, rheumatism and arthritis.
