ana t.b. 1The BIH Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ana Trišić-Babić participated today at the plenary session of the XV Adriatic-Ionian council “Adriatic-Ionian macro-region as a response to common challenges in the region and as a mechanism for Western Balkan countries to enter the EU”, which is being held in Brussels.

In her address, Trišić-Babić spoke of the importance of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative (JJI) for all candidate countries and potential candidate countries for EU membership and repeated the support of BiH for the creation of a Strategy of the European Union for the Adriatic-Ionian region, announced the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

She contragulated Croatia’s upcoming accession to the EU and expressed satisfaction, but also concern for the implications that Croatian citizenship will have on BiH.

Trišić-Babić sent laudatory words to the Slovenian Minister for successful chairmanship of the Adriatic-Ionian Initiative, and wished success to Albania, which will take over the chairmanship of this regional initiative on 1 June for a period of one year.

The plenary session ended with the adoption of a Brussels declaration that confirms the future of Southeast Europe in the EU, and that the Initiative should contribute to the integration process of countries in the Adriatic-Ionic Initiative that are not yet full members of the EU with its activities.
