BiH FM: The Diaspora will never again be in Focus only during the Campaign

The new Minister of Foreign Affairs and leader of People and Justice Party Elmedin Konaković commented on the first days in his new position. As he points out, he had two dynamic days and a weekend.

“The rule is that the first meeting is held with the doyen of diplomacy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the ambassador of a foreign country with the longest tenure in our country. To my satisfaction, it is the ambassador of the State of Palestine in Bosnia and Herzegovina, my friend Rezek Namora. The meeting with the head of the EU delegation in BiH, Johann Sattler, confirms our commitment to membership and accession to the great family of European countries,” said Konaković.

The USA is the most important partner

He adds that the USA is the most important strategic partner of this country.

“At the meeting with Ambassador Michael Murphy, we confirmed the importance of good relations. We met with the high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt. As much as we sometimes don’t like the decisions it makes, the institution of the high representative is an important factor in stabilizing relations in Bosnia and Herzegovina. A telephone conversation with colleague Fajon and colleagues Cavusoglu and Grlić Radman hints at quick meetings and quick action,” writes Konaković.

A conversation with the diaspora

He points out that there are many ideas that will further strengthen BiH’s relations with Slovenia, Turkey and Croatia.

“I spoke today with several brilliant young people, Bosnians and Herzegovinians who live outside the borders of our country. The foundations and organizations they manage bring together a large number of extremely high-quality people, whom the state has not taken into account until now. We will systematically gather smart and hardworking people through the institutions of our country. It’s the biggest capital we have. The diaspora will never again be in focus only during the campaign and for the sake of collecting votes. Diaspora will be one of the priorities 24/7 in our business,” said Konaković

He claims that at the beginning of the week he will start visiting faculties that educate young people in the field of international relations and diplomacy.

“First, meetings with management and professors, immediately after with students. We plan to include them in the processes within the MFA,” Konakovic concluded.
