Reactions, appeals and calls for reaction do not stop after the Bijeljina Prosecutor’s Office started the process of questioning the employees and associates of the Potočari Memorial Center.
After the director of the Center, Emir Suljagić, and then the request of the coalition of Three to the OHR and the PIC, to protect the work of this institution and its employees, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of our country also spoke.
Minister Konaković sent a letter to all members of the United Nations to warn of, as he stated, worrying events in connection with the Srebrenica Memorial Center.
“Such an action risks creating the impression that persons who document genocide denial, preserve judicially established facts, educate future generations and work with survivors may be subject to collective police control due to their association with the Memorial Center. Regardless of the formally stated purpose of the proceedings, their cumulative effect may intimidate survivors, witnesses, researchers, educators and human rights defenders and discourage them from continuing the work that is necessary to preserve the truth, the dignity of victims, reconciliation and the prevention of future crimes.”
The Memorial Center, among other things, said that they would not be drawn into daily political squabbles, as it was said, but that they would not back down when it came to protecting their associates and institutional integrity. They also repeated the message that any attempt to put pressure on the Memorial Center would be internationalized and presented to partners from the international community, who are already following this case. And in the last one, in a series of reactions of the director of the Memorial Center, it was stated, among other things, that it is clear to him who is behind the latest attack on the Potočari Memorial Center. In the announcement, he also stated the following:
“In the last 24 hours, it has become clear that the highest officials of SNSD, such as Željka Cvijanović and Srđan Amidžić, are involved and mutually coordinate the latest attack on the Memorial Center. Moreover, Amidžić publicly disclosed the details of the investigation. I hereby call on him to disclose the identity of the complainant, because we too – including 26 innocent citizens of Srebrenica – have the right to know who is accusing us and what for.”
