BiH Foreign Minister Meets Italian Political Director for Western Balkans

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, met on today with the Political Director for the Western Balkans at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Italy, Thomas Botzios.

The Minister welcomed Botzios and thanked him for the continued support that Italy provides to Bosnia and Herzegovina, emphasizing that the friendship and support of the Republic of Italy is of exceptional importance, especially in the process of European integration. The importance of close and constructive political dialogue between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Italy was confirmed, and that numerous meetings and contacts at a high level in the past period have further strengthened trust and confirmed the strong dynamics and continuity of cooperation between the two countries.

Continuing the conversation, the Minister spoke about the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including internal obstructions and rhetoric that threatens the Dayton Peace Agreement and the constitutional order. He emphasized that despite the challenges, the country remains committed to the European path and the implementation of reforms that will contribute to strengthening institutions and stability. He also pointed out the necessity of adopting key laws and appointing the chief negotiator in the European integration process, as well as the importance of preserving the functionality of institutions, respecting the Dayton Peace Agreement and ensuring stability, democratic governance and sovereignty of the state. The importance of the role of the Office of the High Representative (OHR) in preserving stability and the functioning of institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina was particularly emphasized.

Botzios reiterated the strong support of the Republic of Italy for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s European path. He also emphasized the importance of preserving the stability and functionality of institutions in BiH, as well as strengthening trust through European values ​​and regional cooperation.

At the end of the meeting, the interlocutors confirmed their commitment to strengthening democratic and European principles, stability and prosperity of the region, with an expressed willingness to continue developing cooperation in the spirit of partnership and mutual support.
