The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, met today with the Executive Director for Europe at the European External Affairs Service (EEAS), Angelina Eichhorst, with whom he discussed the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the reform process and BiH’s path to the EU.
Konaković expressed his gratitude to the European Commission for the decision of June 30 to allocate 303 million euros for the financing of 8 key infrastructure projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He pointed out that these projects will have visible effects in more areas than development.
As announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH, he expressed the hope that BiH will adopt some of the laws from 14 priorities in the next two months in order to open the chapter of BiH’s final negotiations with the EU.
During the conversation, Executive Director Eichhorst referred to the EC’s new investment package, which will finance 8 projects in our country, and emphasized that this is another indicator that the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans is in the EU.
She added that the EU expects from our country the fulfillment of 14 priorities from the EC Opinion and the continuation of the reform process, as well as progress in overcoming the existing difference in economic development, all with the goal of a better life for citizens in BiH.
She emphasized that the latest anti-Dayton and anti-constitutional activities in Republika Srpska deviate from those obligations and expectations that accompanied the granting of BiH candidate status for EU membership, and integration is something that the citizens of BiH deserve.
The meeting also discussed preparations for the 5th session of the Stabilization and Association Council between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union, which will be held on July 19, 2023.
