BiH Foreign Minister sent a Protest Note to Israel

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konaković, sent a note of protest to Israel regarding the protocol irregularities that occurred during the official visit of the member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željka Cvijanović, to this country.

The protest note states that Cvijanović is associated with a political party that persistently promotes secessionist narratives within Bosnia and Herzegovina.

It is emphasized that this contributes to an increasingly unstable political environment, while at the same time engaging in activities that risk destabilization both within the country and the region.

“The Ministry notes with deep regret that, based on the photos and text published on the official public accounts of Željka Cvijanović, the official protocol arrangements that accompanied the meetings with high officials of the State of Israel did not ensure adequate display of the flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the only internationally recognized state symbol of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Instead, the flag representing one of the entities of Bosnia and Herzegovina was displayed in a way that suggests an official presentation. The Ministry considers this presentation incompatible with established diplomatic protocol and international practice,” the protest note states.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina stated that the mentioned event represents a serious violation of international diplomatic protocol standards and a failure to show respect for the sovereignty, constitutional order and internationally recognized symbols of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“Such an omission does not reflect the level of mutual respect that should characterize the relations between the two states. Considering the seriousness of this issue, the Ministry requests an explanation regarding the circumstances that led to this protocol omission,” it is emphasized.

We remind you that Cvijanović visited Israel on Monday, where, among other things, she met with Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar. During the official meetings in Israel, in the rooms where the talks were held, behind Cvijanović and her hosts, only the flag of Republika Srpska was displayed.
