Due to the difficult situation at the fire sites throughout Herzegovina, the Civil Protection of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton has requested international assistance, which includes the engagement of Canadairs.

As Pero Pavlovic, spokesman for the Crisis Staff of Civil Protection of the HNK, confirmed for Srna, the request for international assistance was sent primarily to Croatia with a request for the engagement of Canadairs.

“Due to the difficult situation at the fire sites in Herzegovina from Konjic to Citluk and Capljina, international help in extinguishing the fire was requested and a request was sent to Croatia for the engagement of Canadians,” Pavlovic told Srna.

Let’s remind you that several fires are active in the area of Herzegovina, namely in Konjic, Citluk and Capljina, and the area of eastern Herzegovina, more precisely around Bileca, has also been affected.

Since yesterday, the helicopter of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina has been active in the area of Konjic, Citluk and Capljina, contributing to firefighting.

The fire in the area of Konjic is still active, the wind makes extinguishing difficult

In a statement to Klix.ba, the assistant mayor in the civil protection service of the City of Konjic, Husejin Hodzic, said that the situation with the fires in Konjic is similar to yesterday, and that the wind makes it difficult to fully extinguish the fire.

“We are currently touring the area, and the fire is still active. The situation is approximately the same as it was on Saturday. However, the wind has started to blow and the fire could go towards the dense pine forest, which would pose an additional problem,” Hodzic said for Klix.ba.
