BiH is at the top of all the European countries regarding the abundance of forests.

According to research results, which were carried out by the World Bank in 2012 regarding forest resources, BiH has the richest forests in the region of South East Europe.

Specifically, around 43 percent of BiH is covered in forests. The Head of the sector for hunting and hunting tourism of the public company “”Sarajevošume” (Sarajevo forests) Zejnil Berilo confirmed for agency Anadolija that BiH is one of the most richest European countries regarding forestry.

“Moreover, according to population, BiH is a country with the largest area of forest resources. More accurately, around 50 percent of the country is covered in forests’’, specified Berilo.

By comparison, BiH is two times richer than Belgium, three times than Denmark and nearly four times than Great Britain. BiH is far ahead than many economically developed countries such as China, France, Germany, Italy and the USA.

Bearing in mind that BiH is at the top of European countries regarding forest abundance, Berilo says that it is necessary to take measures in order to prevent unplanned and uncontrolled logging.

“The time has finally come to protect this valuable natural resource. We need to set up permanent forest ramps, which already exist in advanced European countries, and cameras to monitor traffic. It is necessary to sanction those who are involved in illegal deforestation. In this way we would reduce damaged by 90 percent’’, said Berilo.
