Although Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is a water-rich country, citizens are surprised every year by data on the enormous amount of water we import.
Judging by the data for the first five months of this year, imports in 2024 will exceed the figure from 2023.
According to the data of the Indirect Tax Administration (ITA) of Bosnia and Herzegovina, for the five months of 2024, 91,188,441 liters of water worth 113,549,392 BAM were imported into our country. However, the same code is for water and similar drinks, so not all 91,188,441 liters are plain water.
This means that in five months of 2024, 5,987,672 more liters were imported compared to the same period in 2023.
When it comes to imported water in 2024, ITA data show that 24,080,629 liters of water with a value of 14,229,705 BAM were imported without additives.
Most of this water was imported from Serbia, 14,664,384 liters.
67,118,811 liters worth of 88,248,687 BAM were imported of water with additives, such as carbonated water and water with sugar. Most of the water with additives was imported from Serbia.
Data related to the export of water show that 50,918,759 liters worth 30,106,040 BAM were exported in five months of 2024. We exported the most water to Croatia.
19,758,544 liters of water without additives were exported, worth 3,463,120 BAM, while water with additives was exported in the amount of 31,160,215 liters, worth 26,642,919 BAM.
Compared to the same period in 2023, an increased export of water was recorded, and in 2024, counting the five-month period, 20,876,135 liters more were exported.
