“Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) participation in international cooperation has made this country one of the global leaders, viewed globally,” Secretary General of INTERPOL Jurgen Stock said here Wednesday.

At the meeting held in the BiH’s capital Sarajevo, BiH Security Minister Dragan Mektic and Secretary General of INTERPOL Jurgen Stock exchanged views on strengthening capacities to fight organized crime, cybercrime, money laundering and how to use the new Interpol service for the rapid exchange of security information and data.

For the beginning, Stock explained that his visit to BiH comes in the context of an exceptional changes in the international security situation, requiring everyone to better organize, but that the engagement of BiH in the area of strengthening global security is worth of praise.

In this context, Stock praised BiH for the central role that BiH police forces had in some joint operations, i.e operation codenamed ‘Trigger’, aimed at combating illegal arms trafficking, gathering a total of 7,800 police members from 23 countries, resulting in 149 arrests and seizures of firearms and explosives.

“From international terrorism, organized criminal groups and cybercrime, our communities face a number of threats that we must solve together,” Stock said at the press conference.

For his part, Mektic stressed the determination of BiH to continue to engage in strengthening and expanding cooperation with INTERPOL, emphasizing that through INTERPOL, BiH institutions will have the information on the people coming back to BiH from Syria.

INTERPOL, the world’s largest international police organization, has opened the office in 2003 in Sarajevo, making it one of the first offices to join the global INTERPOL communication network. Currently, INTERPOL counts 192 member countries, official website says.
