Traffic accidentThis week’s entry into force of changes to the Law on traffic safety raised the question on what more can be done in order to reduce the number of traffic accidents in BiH. What is already in the process, and which should be completed by the end of the year, is the Register of road accidents in BiH. We have not had a place where we could find all the information about traffic accidents, which was a major problem in efforts to increase traffic safety.

On this project works the Ministry of Transport and Communications of BiH, and relevant ministries on the entity and cantonal levels are ready to provide the necessary assistance.

“In this way, we will get precise information about where accidents mostly happen, why they repeat at certain locations, is the problem in the road or carelessness of drivers. Nevertheless, we will know how to behave and what to do in order to reduce the number of accidents,” they said.

The absence of this information in one place was a great obstacle for start of certain projects that are related to road safety. However, they will not stop after this project. The Ministry of Transport and Communications of FBiH is working to establish units for traffic safety of the FBiH, and one of the main tasks will be connecting regional institutions that will exchange information related to traffic safety in this entity.

As Vecernji list learned, they are even thinking of introducing more strict controls in driving schools and the system of taking the driving test in general. According to some reports, there are indications that some individuals do not test future drivers in some cases, but they issue their certificates for no reason. This is greatly endangering the situation when it comes to traffic safety.
