BiH Timber Industry Continues Positive Export Results

The Association of Timber and Forestry of the BiH Foreign Trade Chamber discussed today at an Assembly reports on the operations of the timber and forestry industry in 2012 and at the beginning of 2013, and a plan of work for the Association in 2013.

As was said, production in all segments of the timber and forestry industry in BiH last year has declined, while export in the amount of 826.5 million KM was higher by 2,4 percent in comparison to the previous year of 2011.

The Secretary of the Association of Timber and Forestry of VTKBIH Selma Bašagić said that last year the import of timber reduced by 4,2 percent in comparison to the previous year, and that the export-import ratio in 2012 amounted to 337.6 percent, which is above the coverage that was achieved in the previous year.

According to her, positive trends in exports continued into the first two months of this year, and the export of the timber industry is greater than 121 million KM, which is 21.4 percent more than in comparison to the first two months of last year.

The total exports that still has the largest participation is the export of furniture, with more than 56 million KM for the first two months or 17,9 percent more than in comparison to the same period in 2012, while the total export-import ratio was 440 percent.

At the meeting “Ekopak” company was presented, the first authorized provider of packaging waste management system that will coordinate directly with manufacturers of timber and all activities tied to the management and disposal of waste.

Information on the Export Council of BIH was discussed in connection to the results in the area of certification in the wood and timber industry in accordance with EU regulations. Regarding this, concrete conclusions and recommendations of more active involvement of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BIH in support of the process of certifying and implementing EU regulations in this area were adopted.

Until now in BiH more than 1.250.000 hectares of forest have been certified, and four companies of forestry, and the company Forests of the RS have ben re-certified for the next five years.

In the timber industry in BiH more than 140 companies have been certified until now, among which are three companies from the paper industry.
