After the total loss of electricity today at 12:25 p.m., Elektroprivreda BiH began to gradually restore hydroelectric and thermal power plants to operation.

Thanks to the efforts of the employees of Elektroprivreda BiH, there were no breakdowns at the company’s production facilities, announced the Communications Service of JP Elektroprivreda BiH.

About 50 percent of customers are already supplied with electricity in Bosnia and Herzegovina, according to the announcement.

NOS BiH: The reason for the outage of part of the BiH Electric Power System is problems in the transmission network in the region

The Independent System Operator (ISO) of BiH announced that the circumstances of the outage of part of the Electric Power System (EES) of BiH, which occurred today at 12:25 p.m., are being determined, and according to initial information, the reason is problems in the transmission network in the region and overloading of key 400kV interconnecting lines.

The direct consequence of this was the cascading transmission of disturbances to EES BiH.

A similar scenario happened on June 20 this year, when there was a problem in the EES of Greece, North Macedonia, Albania and Montenegro. The timely intervention of operational staff and the localization of the problem on the border with Montenegro prevented the spread of the collapse of the BiH electric power system.

Given that in today’s circumstances, the disruption has cascaded to Croatia, with which Bosnia and Herzegovina has the largest number of interconnecting transmission lines, it was not possible to prevent the collapse of the BiH power system.

Currently, the entire region is affected by the cascading outage of power lines, namely: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Montenegro, Croatia, and part of Serbia.

Operational steps are being taken towards the gradual inclusion of consumers and production units, by energizing the main 400kV and 220kV transformer stations from the direction of Ugljevik and Tuzla to Banja Luka, Sarajevo and Mostar, and from Croatia to Mostar 4, Prijedor 2, Kakanj, Jablanica.

The normalization of the situation is hampered by high voltages in the 400kV and 220kV lines, which make it impossible to turn on the power lines.

“We note that, before today’s incident, the electric power system of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is under the constant supervision of the operational staff of ISO BiH, was working at full capacity, with normal operating parameters of key electric power facilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, according to the statement of ISO BiH.
