The return of migrants residing illegally in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) to their countries of origin is one of the priority activities of the Ministry of Security of BiH and the Service for Foreigners‘ Affairs of BiH this year.

Therefore, at the proposal of the Ministry of Security of BiH, money from European Union (EU) funds was provided for this purpose, primarily air transport costs.

In the last year, BiH has managed to bring migration under control and significantly reduce the number of migrants in our country. There are currently about 2.000 people in six centers, most of them from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Bangladesh, and Iraq.

The goal is to further reduce the pressure of illegal migrants in BiH by returning them to their countries of origin and to take more efficient measures in migration management in this segment as well. Last year, 190 migrants were returned from BiH, mostly with the voluntary consent of those individuals.

BiH has already created a legal framework with some countries for the return of persons residing illegally in BiH, including Pakistan, from which a quarter of migrants in BiH come.
