Biomedical EngineeringThe first regional conference for medical and biological engineering in Bosnia and Herzegovina started yesterday in Sarajevo.

Conference, that is attended by more than 500 active and passive participant, is the unique opportunity for the exchange of ideas and representing the latest achievements in the field of biomedical engineering under the motto “Expand your horizons through the biomedical engineering“, and participants will be able to see and hear: 13 invited lectures, 68 presentations, 22 poster presentations and 29 student workshops.

Almir Badnjevic, the president of the organizing committee of the first regional conference for medical and biological engineering, and the executive director of the Association for medical and biological engineering in BiH, said that conference itself has an aim to expand horizons connected to the biomedical engineering because it is one broad and multidisciplinary field.

About the perspective of this profession, said Badnjevic, enough talks the fact tha this profession was declared as the best one in the world in 2013. He states that, due to the mentioned above, the importance of this conference that will organized for the first time in BiH and region, is quite clear.

“From the scientific aspect, this event is very recognizable, and during three days, eminent names from this field will participate. Besides that, 29 student workshops will be held at the Faculty of Medicine Sarajevo“, said Badnjevic.

About how this field is developed here, talks the fact that this is the first conference and that their Association is the first one to deal with this in BiH, an it was established one year ago.

Yesterday was also announced that BiH has been accepted as a member of the International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering. Badnjevic added that this means that one small country enters in this field .

“We hope that this will help this field to be more developed in future“, said Badnjevic.

Otherwise, bioengineering department yet doesn’t exist at faculties in BiH. At the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo, as we find out, is being worked at the establishment of the doctoral studies that will cover the field of bioengineering. At the International Burch University there is a department for genetics and bioengineering that works one part of the bioengineering while at the Electrical Engineering Faculty in Sarajevo there is a subject Bioinformatics and biomedical signals and systems, that covers a small part of this field.
