US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Ramallah in the West Bank to meet with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
Blinken is on a regional tour to stop the escalation of the conflict in Gaza to the wider region.
On Tuesday, he met with Israeli officials in Tel Aviv. On that occasion, he said that it is absolutely imperative to do more to protect civilians and ensure that humanitarian aid reaches the hands of those who need it, as well as the release of hostages.
After the meeting, Abbas is expected to head to the Jordanian city of Aqaba to participate in a summit with Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
Discussions are planned on the situation in Gaza, where more than 23,000 Palestinians have been killed as a result of Israeli attacks.
Washington has so far refrained from calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and has provided Tel Aviv with military, intelligence and diplomatic support.
Blinken is on his fourth Middle East tour in three months, AA writes.
