The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Policy and Security, Josep Borrell, is in New York for the 77th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, where, among other things, he will meet with the leaders of the Western Balkans.

As announced by his office, Borrell will meet with UN-General Antonio Guterres on Sunday, and today he will participate in a panel dedicated to Ukraine and global crises “From Ukraine to America: Strengthening Recovery from Global Earthquakes”, together with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba and Guatemala’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mario Bucaro.

Yesterday, Borrell joined European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to open the general debate of the 77th UN General Assembly. On the same day, EU officials met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Borrell will then call the leaders from the Western Balkans to a traditional meeting organized on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly,” the press service of the European External Action Service (EEAS) said in a statement.

As announced, Borrell will represent the EU on Wednesday at the 12th ministerial meeting of the Global Counter-Terrorism Forum, hosted by current co-chairs Canada and Morocco.

Borrell will host a ministerial meeting between the EU and the Gulf Cooperation Council on September 22nd.
