Bosnian Agricultural Producers announced Blockage of Border

“If Croatia does not simplify the export of plums from Bosnia and Herzegovina to the European Union by Thursday, agricultural producers will be forced to block the border,” said Suad Selimovic, president of the Association for Agriculture and Food Industry, which operates at the Tuzla Canton Chamber of Commerce.

Selimovic points out that they are waiting for an urgent reaction and solving the problem, considering that they have an increasing number of trucks with plums going to the border every day, Avaz news portal reports.

If they do not get an adequate answer and a solution that their goods and trucks do not stand at the border for two or three days, and that they will make a decision on Thursday what to do next.

“We will propose that reciprocity be applied, that is, that BiH limit import to our country to only two border crossings – Selimovic stated for “Nezavisne”. He points out that this year there is a great demand for plums, and that buyers in European countries are looking for a ton more than before.

Dragoja Dojcinovic, president of the Association of Fruit Growers of Republika Srpska, said that this problem is great irresponsibility of the institutions that are responsible for that.

“It happens to us every year. Why wouldn’t a general decision be made for the borders to work if necessary 24 hours a season,” said Dojcinovic and added that these are goods that do not tolerate waiting.
