Bosnian Emina Skaljic is Winner of New York Artist-in-Residence Award

The Bosnian-Herzegovinian Film Festival (BHFF) is pleased to announce that Emina Škaljić, a student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo (AFAS), has been selected as our 2020 Artist-in-Residence!

As the winning designer of the BHFF’s 2020 promotional artwork,  Emina will be rewarded with a visit to New York City during the 17th annual BHFF, which takes place from April 8-11, 2020. She will present her project to the BHFF audience at the closing ceremony on April 11.

Since 2015, AFAS and the BHFF have collaborated on the creation of graphic design artwork used in BHFF promotional campaigns, facilitating a cultural exchange between the two countries. This collaboration revolves around a design competition in Sarajevo, in which 3rd and 4th year graphic design students create visual art proposals to be used by BHFF. The idea enables students to work on a live project, challenging them to apply and sharpen their graphic design skills while gaining important experience that prepares them for their professional careers.

In 2020, eight AFAS students submitted artwork for consideration following guidance from curatorial teams based in Sarajevo and New York. The teams have selected AFAS student Emina Škaljić as this year’s Artist-in-Residence for her intricate, playful design work juxtaposing the busy streets of NYC with the bustling Titova street in Sarajevo. Emina’s design will appear on all BHFF promotional materials in 2020.

Both AFAS and BHFF believe that the visit to New York will be a tremendous contribution to Emina’s academic and professional development, and serve as an inspiration for her peers.

BHFF would like to extend gratitude to the Sarajevo curating team at AFAS—Professor Bojan Hadžihalilović and Sandro Drinovac for their work.

We congratulate Emina on this remarkable recognition and thank all participating students at the AFAS.

The seventeenth annual BHFF will run from April 8-11, at SVA Theatre in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood.
