fairThe Bosnian and Herzegovinian Culture Center of Idaho—otherwise known as Mladi Behar—is hosting its first annual Bosnian Heritage Day celebration, set for Saturday, May 9 at the Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park in Meridian.

The free event, which is scheduled to run 10 a.m.-5 p.m., will feature Bosnian food for sale, a soccer tournament, various performances of folk dancing, music and presentations about Bosnia. It will also showcase Bosnian businesses around the state and workshops for the community to learn more about the Balkan region.

Author Jasmina Cesic will also be there to talk about her memoir, The River Runs Salt, Runs Sweet.  The book follows her journey through living as a teenager in a Yugoslavian city while it falls apart.

Both Boise Mayor Dave Bieter and Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd have officially proclaimed May 9 Bosnian Heritage Day.
