bozkurtDelegate in the European Parliament and the Spokesperson for Social Democrats for BiH in the European Parliament Emina Bozkurt expressed her satisfaction after the House of Representatives of the BIH Parliamentary Assembly adopted a proposal for amendments to the Law on BiH citizenship.

She said that since 2010 she has been warning BiH diaspora on the possibility of them losing their citizenship and recalled that she organized a conference for that reason, which was held in 2010 in the European Parliament with the BiH diaspora. It included the participation of young people whose heritage is from BIH and who currently live in European countries.

She said that she warned the European Parliament of this situation in 2011 and asked for an immediate implementation of the decision of the BiH Constitutional Court on the order of the revision of the Law on citizenship.

“For years I have witnessed how the diaspora is still tied to BiH and wish to do something for their country. They did not leave their country because they wanted to, but because they had to’’, said Bozkurt.

She said that for this reason losing citizenship would be unfair and expressed satisfaction that the amendment where it stated BiH citizenship could be lost by acquiring citizenship of another country was erased.

She said that the adoption of a Law on the unique master citizen number was supposed to have been adopted urgently so that babies could have access to medical care and said that she put this issue on the European agenda as part of a resolution to the European Parliament in May.
