With the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, the humanitarian situation in Syria remains unstable, the United Nations said.
Hospitals across Syria are overwhelmed with a large number of patients with severe injuries and trauma, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported.
Many people suffer from enormous psychological stress, and children in particular show signs of trauma, OCHA announced on Tuesday.
In many large cities, such as the capital Damascus, there are food shortages. Since the beginning of the rebel offensive, the price of bread in cities like Idlib and Aleppo has increased by 900 percent.
The UN estimates that since the beginning of the offensive by the rebels led by the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), around one million people have been displaced in Syria. The movement of refugees continues, it is stated.
OCHA has warned of minefields that restrict the movement of people and the delivery of goods. In the past 10 days, at least 52 minefields have been identified across the country.
