Seven days before the end of the annual summit, Brussels continues to wait for an agreement by politicians from B&H on the Sejdić-Finci case. EU has stopped the 45 million Euros of assistance because that money is for B&H’s European path, in which B&H has stagnated, announces Radio Deutsche Welle.
This year, as every year, EU prepares in December annual conclusions on the progress of countries which are in the process of EU enlargement. In the last months in the EU the expectation has prevailed that until the end of the year B&H would manage to achieve internal consensus, and thus progress in the process of EU integration.
EU Enlargement Commissioner Štefan Fule was repeatably expecting that an agreement on the case Sejdić-Finci would be reached in a matter of days and not months.
Only seven days before the end of the European Summit for this year, it is said that the issue of ‘what is next for B&H’ should be primarily directed to B&H leaders.
“This is a good question for B&H political leaders because they are the ones that should reach a compromise and an agreement on outstanding issues such as the judgement Sejdić-Finci and in this regard the election of Presidency members. When B&H politicians have an agreement, then a reaction from the EU should be expected and only then can B&H progress towards the European path, what is very important for the country and for the people”, said the spokesperson of the Commissioner for Enlargement Peter Stano for DW.
EU member countries in October and November discussed the situation in B&H and they have expressed concern about the lack of internal consensus. Still, the possibility exists of reaching an agreement until end of the year on the case Sejdić-Finci and that would be one positive paragraph in the annual report on B&H’s progress.
