The government building of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton (HNK) has been set on fire. Protestors tore down the flagpole of the Canton, while a group of around 10 people entered the Canton building and began throwing computer equipment and other items out the window, reports Anadolija Agency.
At the same time, a group of around 4.000 people in front of the HNK building shouted ‘Mostar has woken up’.
The police have not intervened yet. According to Anadolija correspondent, several incidents between the protestors occurred.
After arriving in front of the HNK building, protestors started throwing rocks at the building, broke windows and then entered the building through the main entrance and began throwing objects out the window.
Before this began, the informal leader of the protests Muharem Hindić Mrvica tried to calm down the protestors and to deter them from vandalism, but did not succeed.
Around 3.000 people gathered at Spanish Square in Mostar in the afternoon in order to express their dissatisfaction with all levels of government, especially in Mostar. The protestors shouted slogans addressed to the Mayor of Mostar, Ljubo Bešlić, ‘’Ljubo, Ljubo, Leave’, and ‘Ljubo, thief’.
They first protested in front of the building of the FB&H government in Mostar, and then went towards the building of the HNK government, located in the western part of the city.
Special units of the Ministry of Interior of HNK and the West-Herzegovina Canton, along with police officers, followed the protestors.
