Bosnia and Herzegovina’s (BiH) integration into the European Union (EU) and infrastructure projects related to economic development were in the focus of meeting between Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and BiH PM Denis Zvizdic here on Thursday.

Zvizdic thanked his counterpart for the support Bulgaria was providing during its six-month Presidency of the Council of the EU.

“I want to thank for everything Bulgaria has done in the last 25 years, especially in the last 6 months. The Bulgarian presidency over the EU is over. The thing about which we are grateful, not only BiH but all Western Balkan countries, is the fact that the Western Balkan was on the agenda,” Zvizdic said.

Zvizdic added that the European perspective is a priority of BiH foreign policy, after which it is important to preserve the continuous work on the country’s economic and infrastructure development.

He concluded his speech by saying that the European perspective for BiH means peace, stability and prosperity adding that immediately after the BiH general elections in October this year, country intends to officially submit the candidacy for the EU.

For his part, Borissov expressed Bulgarian full support for the European path of BiH, adding that he has agreed with Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz to continue proving support for BiH European path during Austrian presidency of the EU.

He emphasized that it is essential to maintain the mutual link between infrastructure projects as well as projects related to economic development, Borissov concluded in his addressing to reporters.

On Feb. 15, 2016, BiH formally submitted its application to join the EU, which was accepted on Sept. 20, 2016.
