With the aim of improving the border checks of persons and means of transportation during the crossing of the border, the Border Police of BiH initiated the activities of introducing systems for automatic reading and checking of registration plates.

“The Border Police of BiH is planning to set up special cameras for checking the registration plates on vehicles at international border crossings”, as confirmed from the Border Police BiH.

Based on the checking of the registration plates, they will be able to determine whether the vehicle is claimed by the relevant body, whether it was stolen or whether some other measures have to be taken according to the requirements of the relevant authorities.

“These activities are conducted within the Project of Establishment of Video Surveillance (IPA 2015) and BP BiH submitted all the necessary documentation for the implementation of this project to the European Commission in Sarajevo,” as noted by the BP BiH.

When it comes to the time period that is necessary for the realization of this important project, they noted that the dynamics of project implementation depends on the procedures and the competent authorities of the European Commission.

On the other side, this activity of the Border Police encountered a positive attitude of drivers. The President of the Association of Transporters for International and Internal Transport of Republika Srpska, Nikola Grbic, believes that this move made by border police is completely justified.

“This is a great thing, but we need to turn it in the other direction. We know that there are transporters who are working with unregistered trucks, but they should be controlled by the traffic police and not at the border crossings,” said Grbic.
