Cantonal Assembly accepts Resignation of Prime Minister

At yesterday’s session, the Sarajevo Canton Assembly passed a Decision on accepting the resignation of Prime Minister Nihad Uk. In accordance with the Law on the Government of the Canton of Sarajevo, the entire convocation of the Government of the Canton of Sarajevo was officially dissolved.

Addressing the representatives, Prime Minister Uk pointed out that the resignation was a direct response to the tragic traffic accident on February 12 and the justified dissatisfaction of citizens, especially young people.

”I deeply believe that societies progress when institutions are ready to take responsibility and when the government shows that it hears the voice of its citizens. Especially the voice of young people who want a fairer, safer and more orderly society,” emphasized the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton.

Uk also recalled the reform processes and development projects that were launched during the mandate of the Sarajevo Canton Government, from investments in public transport, education and health, to support for families, the economy and large infrastructure projects that will improve the quality of life of citizens in the long term.

“I am proud of the fact that in the past years we have initiated processes that lead Sarajevo forward. However, no project and no result can be more important than citizens’ trust in institutions,” he emphasized.

According to the Law on the Government of the Sarajevo Canton, the Government of the Canton of Sarajevo will continue to perform all ongoing tasks within its competence until the appointment of a new convocation. The Prime Minister and ministers remain in their duties in the technical mandate in order to ensure the stability of cantonal institutions, it was announced by the CS Protocol and Press Service.
