In recent years, Cantonal Hospital Zenica (CHZ) faced some serious problems in the functioning, while the elimination of surgical procedures in this institution was quite frequent. Director Rasim Skomorac said that short-term loans solved the problem to some extent, but it is necessary to look at the long run if CHZ wants to make any progress.
Despite the difficult financial situation and debts, several explantation procedures were performed at the Zenica hospital this year, which brought respectability to this institution and its professional staff. However, high-quality surgical procedures remained in shadow of the debt, the lack of medical equipment, failure of devices for MRI and CT, and many other problems that this institution had to face with.
“We changed the atmosphere with the help of the Government and the Ministry of Health, and we managed to achieve an agreement with Siemens through the payment of debts, so we realized repair of MR device which was a serious issue. Large number of patients was waiting or doing examination somewhere else which was threatening for our patients, as well as our quality of work. With the repair we also ensured additional income since the use of MRI devices is charged from the Health Insurance,” added Skomorac.
Repair of CT device enabled the continuation of the work of radiotherapy thus enabling this segment of the oncology treatment for the patient as well as considerable amount of funds from the Federal Fund on that basis.
“All of this enabled stabilization of the situation, but we must look for other solutions for a longer period,” said Skomorac and emphasized that conversations with the Government and the Institute for funds to CHZ for the next year are taking place, which will contribute to the further development of the hospital.
