mdd-team-on-demining-task-in-kosovoImplementation of the Mine Action Plan is continuing at the territory of the Cazin Municipality. After successful demining of one location in Ostrožac, demining activities commenced at the territory of the settlement Skokovi as well.

Although it has been 21 years since the end of the war in BiH, mines and other unexploded ordnance are still representing major threat for citizens. Municipality of Cazin is one of the municipalities that do not have many mined areas, but risky locations still exist, even in inhabited areas.

Project task “Pivka” was launched these days in the settlement Skokovi. The project is aimed at full clearing of 61.500 square meters of land from unexploded ordnance, at places even in the close proximity to settlements. The company “Association for Mine Elimnation” Sarajevo, which executes the demining process, stated that mines have already been discovered at this locality.

The project which costs around 200.000 BAM is being financed by the Embassy of the USA and its completion is expected in 15 days.

Demining of all mined areas at the territory of this municipality should be completed in the coming period, thus in 2017 the Municipality of Cazin might become the only municipality at the territory of the Una-Sana Canton that is entirely cleared of mines.
