The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina announced tonight the preliminary results of the early elections for the President of the RS, according to which Siniša Karan, the candidate of the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats won 224,384 votes, and Branko Blanuša (SDS), the candidate of the opposition, won 213,513 votes.

The CEC of Bosnia and Herzegovina will have to determine the results of these elections and confirm them before Karan takes office.

Yesterday, elections were repeated at 136 polling stations in 17 municipalities and cities in the RS, based on the CEC’s earlier decision to annul the election results from those polling stations due to established electoral irregularities.

Almost 42,000 voters voted in the repeated elections, and Karan received more than ten thousand votes.

Early presidential elections in the RS were held on November 23, after the CEC stripped the presidential mandate from Milorad Dodik, who was sentenced by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina to one year in prison and six years of public office for not implementing the decisions of the high representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
