The Deputy Chairperson of the Council of Ministers and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), Bisera Turkovic, together with Zlatko Komadina, Prefect of the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, and Deputy Mayor Goran Palcevski, opened the Consulate General of BiH in Rijeka yesterday.
The official opening was also attended by representatives of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Croatia, representatives of local authorities, the diplomatic corps, civil life from Rijeka and religious communities, as well as numerous citizens of BiH who live in this part of Croatia.
”Today in Rijeka we proudly open the eighth Consulate General of BiH and the 58th diplomatic-consular representation of our country in the world. After last week’s ceremony in Novi Pazar, in the Republic of Serbia, when we opened the Consulate General, with today’s solemn ceremony in the neighboring Republic of Croatia, we continue to expand and strengthen the diplomatic-consular network of BiH. Activities are underway to open several more embassies, with which we want to strengthen the position of BiH on the international scene, but also to strengthen bilateral relations with friendly countries,” Minister Turkovic said yesterday.
The minister pointed out that BiH, by opening new diplomatic and consular offices, is sending a message that it wants to build strong and stable relations with neighboring countries, based on mutual respect, appreciation, and understanding.
”One of these countries is Croatia, with which BiH shares by far the longest state border. We also share deep and complex ties in many areas. Croatia is one of the leading foreign trade partners and investors in BiH, and Croatian tourists are one of the leaders in our country in terms of the number of visits. I am convinced that we will resolve open issues more through bilateral meetings than through the media. BiH, with full respect for its institutions, is committed to strengthening relations with Croatia, which we confirm with today’s opening of the Consulate General in Rijeka. Let this festive day be an additional impulse in improving the overall cooperation between our two countries,” Turkovic further stated yesterday.
The Consulate General in Rijeka will cover seven counties, from Dubrovnik to Istra, and will be of great help to the citizens of BiH, but also to all others who will be able to turn to this consulate for help, Klix.ba writes.
