Members of the Mountain Rescue Service of Canton 10 successfully found and rescued two young Croatian citizens who lost their orientation while hiking on Kamešnica and ended up on difficult-to-access terrain below Goli vrh.
As Tomislav Tadić from GSS told Fena news agency, two young men, around 20 years old, were returning from the top of Konj towards the Croatian side of the mountain when they missed the hiking trail.
“We received a call from the police that two Croatian citizens were lost in Kamešnica. They were returning from Konj towards the Croatian side, but they missed the trail and got stuck on extremely inaccessible terrain below Goli vrh, southwest of Konjic,” Tadic said.
After the report, part of the members of the GSS went in search and managed to locate and find the lost mountaineers.
The rescue was made difficult by the darkness and strong wind
According to Tadic, the young men were not injured and were in good physical condition, but the darkness and unfavorable weather conditions made the situation even more difficult.
“Night had already fallen, the weather was extremely bad and a strong wind was blowing. They lost their orientation and could not independently continue moving towards their destination on the Croatian side,” explained Tadić.
The call for intervention came while 13 members of the GSS were participating in a regular rescue exercise at the climbing area above Duman. Part of the rescuers was immediately dispatched to Kamešnica.
The operation was successfully completed, and the two young hikers were safely brought out from the inaccessible terrain, Fena writes.
