CEC fines SNSD 30,000 BAM for Dodik’s Hate Speech

The Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CIK BiH) has fined the Alliance of Independent Social Democrats (SNSD) 30,000 BAM for hate speech by party leader Milorad Dodik.

The CEC held its 62nd session in Sarajevo today, where it discussed measures for hate speech uttered during his address at an SNSD rally in East Sarajevo.

The CEC proposed that the SNSD be fined 30,000 BAM, which was adopted at today’s session. Five members voted in favor, while two members of the CEC voted against.

The procedure was initiated after numerous public reactions and condemnations from political representatives from the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who called Dodik’s speech a classic example of hate speech and called on the competent institutions to react.

The Collegium of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina previously assessed that such public statements incite interethnic intolerance and undermine the constitutional order and fundamental values of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Recall that the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina previously stripped Dodik of his mandate as President of the Republika Srpska entity after the Court of BiH upheld a final verdict finding him guilty of disobeying the decisions of the High Representative, AA writes.
