CEC unanimously adopted the Decision of Old Town Mayor Impeachment

Today, at the 58th regular session, the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina (CEC BiH) unanimously adopted the Decision on the impeachment of the Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić.

At today’s session of the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a detailed report was presented on the impeachment procedure of the mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, and a proposal for a decision which establishes that the impeachment procedure of the mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, Ibrahim Hadžibajrić, was carried out in accordance with the law and that the mandate ends on the day this decision becomes final.

Ermin Kos, head of the Sector for Elections and Information Technology presented a detailed report in which he presented the procedures that were carried out during the impeachment procedure of the mayor of Stari Grad Municipality.

On August 8, 2023, the CEC was provided with complete documentation related to the impeachment procedure of the mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, and the commission’s report on the procedure was also submitted as an attachment to that documentation.

On May 29, 2023, the initiative to initiate the recall was supported by 23 councilors of the Municipality. Later, on June 12, the Municipal Council made a decision to initiate the procedure, which was carried out on July 27.

Kos announced that regular voters could exercise their right at 46 polling stations. According to the insight into the voting results, there were 3,785 voters in favor and 1,050 against. There were 36 invalid ballots. The results showed that 78.28 percent supported the impeachment of the chief.

On June 29, the CEC sent a request to the Federal Ministry of Justice for an opinion on whether the impeachment was carried out in accordance with the law. The Ministry’s response stated that the procedure was carried out according to the law.

After a detailed report, the CEC unanimously made a decision which establishes that the impeachment procedure of the Mayor of the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo, Hadžibajrić Ibrahim, was carried out in accordance with the law and that his mandate ends on the day this decision becomes final.
