Celebration of Girls’ Day in Sarajevo: “Women in Power, why not?

thumbnail_GirlsDay_ucesniceThe event Girls’ Day, which is organized every year in Germany and several other countries, represents an opportunity to encourage young girls to affirm and participate in the political and economic life of their country, including positions at the highest level.

On April 26, the German and the French ambassadors to BiH organized the event called “Women in Power” for twenty girls from high schools in Sarajevo.

During this meeting, the young participants had the opportunity to talk with ambassadors, as well as women active in the field of BH economy: Aida Zubcevic, president of the Association of Business Women of BiH, and Maja Mehmedovic, executive director of ProCredit Bank.

While using examples from their own career, they sent a key message that in the encounter with professional opportunities, you never ask yourself “why”, but “why not”?

The Ambassador of Germany Christiane Hohmann also gave a lesson from her professional experience: in order to progress, the girl should never set herself boundaries. The challenges are worth the effort, and a defeat brings useful experience as well. She reminded the young participants to never permit someone to tell them that they are unable to do something.

The Ambassador of France, Claire Bodonyi, encouraged the young participants to crash “the glass ceiling” that prevents women from reaching positions with great responsibility. She explained that you must follow two same rules in order to become an ambassador, director of the company or a prime minister: to work and be determined!
